Your first visit
What to expect as a new patient.
The exact appointment depends on why you are coming in, but a first visit commonly includes the steps below.
Examine and take X-rays when needed
The dentist examines your teeth, gums, bite and existing dental work. Dental radiographs are recommended when they are clinically useful.
Discuss findings and next steps
We explain what was found, answer questions and discuss priorities and treatment options. Hygiene care may occur at that visit or be scheduled separately depending on your needs.

If dental care makes you anxious
You are not expected to arrive perfectly comfortable.
Some people feel nervous about dental treatment, embarrassed about their teeth or worried about what they might hear. Tell us. Knowing what makes the visit difficult gives the team a chance to communicate more clearly and pace the appointment appropriately.
For selected patients, oral sedation may also be an option after the dentist reviews your health history, medications and planned treatment.
